*Note this is meant to be a brief overview while a more detailed timeline with dates, archived url snapshots and additional "proofs" are being assembled.

    ARTIST STATEMENT ABOUT THESE ASSETS:

I created the XCPinata assets at a time when I was experimenting with art and blockchain in order to realize my dream of digital originals. Previously I had been creating digital art for years that had no other way to make it "unique" other than printing the image. It is the artist' thinking (which lead to the crypto art/projects) that is most important for the historical significance of these pieces. For each asset I've noted a brief description on the initial thinking behind the asset besides the overarching thinking of "creating art with blockchain" or crypto art. A lot of the assets were created for the tokenization of that specific item. From these initial assets being minted I went on to create various blockchain projects and content which will be gathered and revealed in detail at a later date. In order to keep with the original spirit of art, experimentation, playfulness and blockchain I started the XCPinata project to reward participants and share my thinking the art is the token in and of itself.

    • 2009 - 2012 "Digital Originals"

I first tried to create and sell digital "characters" through email (was openly ridiculed for this) and then on a faux "adoption" website (an arguable 2011 predecessor to pfp) proof here. Each of the 17 Panda's images were filed with a cryptographic hash using the now defunct myfreecopyright.com site but I still hold the emailed verifications for each that look like this here. Basically a form of provenance that was recorded via email instead of a blockchain. Although I'd created hundreds of characters beforehand, in 2009 I created my first character that was officially copyrighted and in 2010 I made the case publicly for copyright being antiquated in order to promote the sharing of ideas.

    • 2013 AR Exhibit

I created one of the first Augmented Reality exhibits in a gallery setting using my digital art that was then turned into physical sculptures and prints. The prints came alive with AR using "digital animated sculptures". Article about the show here.

    • 2015 XCP "Tokenization"

During this time I was creating and studying fine art and realized the blockchain would enable the "Tokenization of Everything" including my art! I could finally have "digital originals" if I could figure out how to get an image/file on chain. Proof of me contacting bitcoin megaphone creator trying to get art on chain here and a question I posted about tokenization of health here. Counterparty enabled the creation of tokenized assets so I started to create tokens that represented items, art, IP, people and more. 24 of these assets were selected for inclusion in the XCPinata project.

    • 2016-2018 Blockchain Secured Editions

I created what I called "Blockchain secured editions" selling editions of artwork using ascribe.io. Proof of ascribe work here. I then went on to explain digital originals to galleries such as the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, proof here.
